Montevallo’s soccer teams had a great season last year. They have been working hard for this fall during conditioning and practice. The girls soccer team finished their season 12-6 while the boys finished 7-8-1. This year Coach Holt (girls) and Coach Gurganus (boys ) are the new head coaches for the boys and girls team. For the season opener on Tuesday 14, 2023 both teams played against Shelby County (away) with both teams winning 3-0 ( girls), and 10-0 (boys) starting the season off strong. This year’s team is full of new young talented players and returning players.

Leila Mendonca and Giovanni Hernandez were the top scorers for both teams last year. Senior Leila Mendonca states that “we have improved a lot and I’m most excited about our possible opportunity to make it to the playoffs”. Last year she ended with a total of 42 goals and 17 assists. Gio stated that he looks forward to “winning the majority of the games and making it to the playoffs this year”.  He ended the season last year with 22 goals and 14 assists.
