Senior Georgia Hughes signed a softball scholarship with the University of Montevallo, Wednesday, November 8, in the MHS Library.

“I chose UM because they have a great softball program,” Hughes said. “I really like the coach. The players are treated like family.”

Classmates, teammates, coaches, teachers, and family attended the event.

“Georgia is very much what we aspire to be,” principal Brandon Turner said.  “She got the scholarship today because of the hard work she has displayed.  She is just a great example of a student-athlete we have here.”

Hughes has played softball since middle school, both school and travel ball. This year will be the last time she will play for the Montevallo High. In the fall of 2018, she will transition to the university to play.  She is currently undecided on a major.

“We have been friends for so long, and it makes me feel really proud,” senior Kaelyn Martin said. “I am proud of her and all of her accomplishments and I look forward to watching her play.”
