Montevallo’s Battle of The Book’s team is preparing to take home the big trophy this year at the County Tournament, Thursday, March 9.

“I think we have a great team this year,” sponsor Anita Glover said.  “I believe we have a great shot of winning it.  Our students have read the books, and are learning the facts.”

Five students are participating in the competition this year. Students include senior Sam Reece, junior Harry Perez, sophomore Miriam Hernandez, and freshmen Bella Fancher, Abigail Heuton, and Sam Reece.

“So far it’s been a lot of fun,” Heuton said.  “I hope to meet new people and expand my interest in books.”

There are six books the students had to read and be able to answers questions quiz bowl questions about.

This year’s books include The Serpent King, by Jeff Zentner; Everything Everything, by Nicola Yoon; Illuminae, by Jay Kristoff; Warriors Don’t Cry, by Melba Pattillo Beals; A Study In Charlotte, by Brittany Cavallaro; and Salt to the Sea, by Ruta Sepetys.

“I really enjoyed reading Illuminae,” Perez said.  “It was more science fiction than some of the others.”
