Band and choir perform songs at Christmas concert
December 9, 2016
Under the direction of first year band director, James Rogers, the high school band held their traditional Christmas Concert, Monday Dec. 5 in the Performing Arts Center.
The evening began with the Montevallo Jazz Combo playing Funky Ol’ St. Nick, Angels We Have Heard on High, Silent Night, and Jingle Bells.
After the Jazz Band, sophomore Chasity Brantley, on trumpet, and senior Allison McCurdy, on clarinet, played In The Bleak Of Winter. They were followed by junior Nate Pepper, on the trumpet, and junior Mary Purvis, on the trombone, playing Jingle Bells.
The entire band then came together playing Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy, Cantique de Noel, The Twelve Days of Christmas, A Holst Christmas, and Christmas “Pop” Sing-a-long with choir director Zachary Banks’ MHS and MMS choirs joining in.
“I really enjoyed it,” senior Thomas Frost said. “As a senior, it is an experience that will be with me for the rest of my life.”
After the band finished playing their Christmas songs, the choir sang two additional songs Santa Claus Coming to Town and Dashing Through The Snow to close out the Holiday Concert.
“The concert went very well,” Banks said. “It was a lot of fun, and good mixed group. I think it was really great experience for the band and choir to do a song together.”
