Many American’s participate in creating New Year’s resolutions, as it is a very common tradition in the month of January each year. A New Year’s resolution is defined as a promise to do something(s) differently than past years. One fun fact about New Year’s resolutions is that roughly 31% of people who create resolutions, stick to them. It is common for many people to stick to it for a few weeks, and then lose the motivation to keep working towards their resolutions. Today, I will ask a few students here at Montevallo High School the following questions: 1) What is one New Year’s resolution that you have as far as academics go? Why do you feel like this will be helpful to you? 2) What is a personal New Year’s resolution you have and why?
Zoe Jone, junior, said “I want to keep my grades up and to learn ways to study harder. I feel like this will help me because I need to have good ways to study and keep my grades up because this is the year I take the ACT. My personal New Year’s resolution is to lose weight because I want to be happy with my body!” Connor Shores, senior, said “I want to finish high school and graduate with all A’s and B’s this last semester. I feel like this will be helpful for me because it will require me to stay on top of my school work and finish stuff on time, all while I’m playing baseball for the school. A personal New Year’s resolution I have is to be more productive/active. I have a gym membership but I just don’t go as much as I should, and I’m basically just wasting money. If I don’t do anything productive, I just feel like I have wasted the whole day.”
After hearing from these students, it is obvious that people have a wide variety of resolutions, but that does not take the importance off of any one’s resolution. All goals matter, and can be reached with proactivity and constant motivation! Let 2025 be the year to reach goals that have always seemed so hard to accomplish! Believe in yourself and try your hardest, then everything else will fall into place!
