The Big Brother/Big Sister’s organization is a non-profit organization whose mission is to “create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.” High school students are matched with elementary school children to be a role model and a support person for those youth. Here at Montevallo High School, members of Dawg Impact are involved in the Big Brother/Big sister program, and they meet one day a week. Dawg Impact has been participating in this program the past 2 years. We can all agree that it is very effective and each of us enjoy building those relationships with the elementary schoolers!
Zoe Jones says “I think this is a very good program and can benefit people. It has been effective because you get closer to younger kids and experience new relationships.” Kati Simmons says “Big Brothers/Big Sisters is a great way for not only younger children to have someone to look up to but also makes the older ones do better because they know they have someone looking up to them. For me, this program has been a great experience that has taught me to slow down and take time to listen to someone while they are talking!” After hearing from two members from Dawg Impact, it sounds to me like they thing the Big Brother/Big Sister program is a positive program that we take part in and something that each of us look forward to every week!
