On October 17, 2024, students involved in Dawg Impact and SGA here at Montevallo High School attended the annual Shelby County Leadership Conference at Valleydale Church. At this event, a guest speaker, Billy Boughey, presented on important things that leaders should do and ways they can implement positivity at each of our schools around Shelby County. At this conference, we learned ways we can be successful in life, as well as things we can share with others, to hopefully see everyone become successful and know what they want to do with their life. The following questions have been asked to students who attended the leadership conference; 1)What is one takeaway you have from this event? 2) How can you implement what you learned into MHS?
Kati Simmons said “One takeaway I have from this event is that we can not let other people control how we act and how we react to situations. I think we can implement this into our school by taking the four habits we learned to do certain projects not only in our school, but in our community as well.” Ashley Galindo said “One takeaway I have from this event is that it’s important to prioritize setting goals in order to have success in the future. I can implement what I’ve learned into school by making short and long term goals that I know I can accomplish when it comes to my academics and learning.”
By hearing the testimonies of those who attended, it is clear that this conference had a huge positive impact on those whom attended. Each student had many takeaways and overall, we are encouraged to put everything we learned in the works, here at Montevallo High school!
