Galentine’s Celebrations

Emily Gallagher, Reporter

Valentine’s Day is the day of love. Traditionally the day has been a celebration between couples in order to show their love and appreciation for each other. In the past couple of years people have been changing the name from “Valentine’s” to “Galentine’s.” Traditionally the term “Galentine’s” has referred to female friend groups, but anybody can celebrate with their friends. This name change shifts the celebrations from romantic relationships to regular friendships. Instead of only celebrating with one person you can celebrate with as many as you want. Galentine’s focuses on appreciating the friendships you’ve created and maintained over the years. Most friend groups go out to dinner, see a movie, and eat sweets together.

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate this year, here are a few ideas. You and your friends can go get your nails done together, go shopping, have a game night, or go to brunch. Galentine’s celebrations don’t need to be extravagant or expensive, as long as you are with the ones you love.
