Parade marks the start of the Christmas season
December 13, 2019
This year’s annual Christmas Parade on Main Street was an unforgettable one. There were several different and creative floats each made by a school club, local organization, church, or sports teams. One club, such as FBLA (Future Business Leaders Of America) had a decorated truck with music while the members of the club threw candy and toys to children. Another interesting entry was St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and their traditional Danza de los Voladores dance. It is a traditional cultural dance, ceremony, and ritual performed in Mexico. Children from the church performed the dance as they were led by their float. It was an amazing experience. The fire and rescue and police departments also participated. This parade is always a great event as everyone in the community gathers around and the streets fill with joy and Christmas spirit.
Current MHS senior, Selena Perez stated, “I think it’s a great experience, especially for the children who really enjoy receiving candy and toys. Participating in the parade is always a fun experience. It’s really fun getting to throw candy for the families who come out to watch.”
Another MHS senior Asia Prentice commented, “Christmas is my favorite time of the year, I always look forward to this event. Being part of the parade is a great experience, it’s always amazing to see the children fill with joy as we throw them candy.”
The parade always marks the start of the holiday season in Montevallo!
