Principal Minnick and SGA vice-president Emily Colley drew the five names of the winners of the NASCAR Talladega race tickets on Wednesday, April 10. The tickets, donated to MHS by Troy Datcher of the Clorox Company, will be given in sets of pairs to the winning students. The race is set to take place on Sunday, May 5.
Students had the opportunity to enter their name in the drawing for every point their grade improved in their core classes from the first semester grade to the third nine weeks grade. One entry was made per point the grade went up; if students already had an A, two entries were made per point the grade went up.
“It’s always a good idea to have an incentive to encourage students to perform better academically,” Minnick said.
The winners were announced during 7th period and include juniors Odalys Gallo, Kajo Krummenacher, and Alex Buttgereit; sophomore Maurice Harris; and freshman Brooke Patterson.
“When I heard that I won the NASCAR tickets I was ecstatic,” Buttgereit said. “I was thinking ‘praise the Lord,’ because I had wanted to go since I heard about the opportunity to win the tickets.”
