The Montevallo Troubadours had three competitions these past three weekends. They went to Camelia Marching Band Festival, Pirate Classic, and Pell City Marching Competition.
The Camelia Marching competition was the first one that they went to. They had an early call time, so they would have time to practice before the competition. They had to perform at 12:40, so they arrived with some time to get something to eat before the show. Before performing they had to get their instruments and equipment. Then they went on the field to warm up and do their traditional routines that they do before performing a show. When the time came they headed to the football field and performed in front of the judges , families, and friends. At the end of the other band shows they have awards that they get. The awards are different for each competition they go to and each section can be different as well. We have four sections Drum major, Color Gaurd, Dance, and Percussion. Then they also grade the rest of the band. At this competition all sections got ones which is the best score. This made everyone happy that all their hard work and preparation paid off.
The Pirate Classic was the second competition and it was at Windfiled. Their call time was at 8:30pm because it was two hours away from the high school. When they arrive they only had time to put there stuff down and settle for just a little bit before they had to head to the warm up field. The band was warming up and auxiliary was parcting. They all did there own sectional chants like they do before every competition. Then they came togather and did the Bobo chant, lead by seniors. All of them got lined up and headed to start their show. Nobody expected anything to bad happen, but It didn’t start well for anyone, the most dangerous thing happened, There was the bigest wind that came their way. Which didn’t efect the people playing but it did effect the ones that had the flags. There was a lot of flags that dropped because of the wind. Lets just say when Color guard came out of the show they weren’t happy because they knew that they could have done better. At last the awards came out. Everyone was nervous, because they didn’t know what would happen but still wanted the best. The announcer said that we got all ones, and our drum major Lily Thornthwaite got the best in class. The percussion section also got the best in class. We all went home happy with the results of the competition.
Brian Hodges told the Troubadours that if we kept getting all ones this season he would put the gel glitter in his hair like auxiliary does for the next games. Which made everyone happy.
The last competition of this season was at Pell City also known as the Heart of Dixie. Ashley and Hodges (the coaches) gave them a warning that this is one of the hardest competitions that they will have. They knew this when going in to it but they were ready for a challenge. Their call time was at 9:30am and they had some practice on the field to get ready for the show. When they arrived they started to get ready. Then they headed to the field to do their show, hoping that it will go well. When they were on the field auxiliary set up their equipment and got into position. They went off that field a bit happier than they did last time. After a long wait the awards started and yet again we were all nervous. Everyone got ones, but the overall band got a two. When they heard of that it crushed them because they worked hard to get there. But Hodges knew that they had worked hard, He told them because they worked hard he would still put glitter in his hair. That made everyone a bit happier.
The Troubadours are a good band. We are all like a family and I would encourage you to join a band or even color guard. Go to Hodges if you have any questions on joining the band.
Go Troubadours!!!!
