The MHS Varsity volleyball team is on a winning streak of 11 games. The JV has a 6 game winning streak. September 26 is the senior night, they will be honoring their 4 seniors. Carter Lawey, Bailey Hamrick, Isabella Ramirez, and Breanna Jalomo. I asked the seniors some questions like How long have they been on the team? How do they feel about the season? What advice do they give to the upcoming girls?, and then I gave them an opportunity to say anything they wanted.
Breanna is in her first year on the team. She said, “This season has been an amazing season, it’s been a season that I’ve gotten close with my teammates even when being new to the team.” She told me the advice that she gives to the upcoming girls is that there will be trial and error, and always give 110%. The last thing she wanted to tell the girls was to be the best on and off the court.
Carter has been on the high school team for four years. She said that during the season they had some ups and downs but she thinks that made their bond stronger. She also thinks that they can go really far this season. The advice that she will give the new girls is to give it their all and leave it all on the court. “I’m very lucky to be on such a trustworthy and compassionate team. The past 6 years playing volleyball have been so fun, so sad that it’s coming to an end.”
Isabella Ramirez has been playing volleyball for four years and has been on the varsity team for two of them years. She told me that this season has been lots of fun and they have grown a lot as a team and she is very proud of the progress they have made. For the upcoming girls, her advice to them is don’t take it too seriously and just have fun. “ This volleyball season has been the most fun one I’ve had and I can’t wait to see how far it will go.”
Bailey Hamrick was on the JV team for her freshmen year then for the past three years she has been on the varsity team. This season for her is very special because it’s her senior year and she felt like she got closer to her teammates. “ To the upcoming girls, I would tell them to play like it’s their last game because soon it will be their last game. Stay close to each other as much as possible.”
