Dawgs win over Calera

Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, Montevallo Bulldogs Varsity still held off Calera for a 7-5 victory on Saturday.  Calera scored three runs in the failed comeback on two errors. The Bulldogs earned the victory despite allowing Calera to score three runs in the seventh inning. Montevallo got things moving in the first inning.  An error scored one run for Montevallo.

Grant Cordes was credited with the victory for the Montevallo Bulldogs. He surrendered two runs on two hits over four innings, striking out two. Josh Mims threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.  Mims recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Dawgs. Montevallo Bulldogs Varsity racked up 12 hits in the game. Cordes, Mims, Malik Inabinette, and Jay Dreyer each had multiple hits for Montevallo. Cordes led the team with three hits in four at bats.

After the big win, second basemen, Malik Inabinette said, “Our mindset was to start early and jump out in front to keep the momentum going.”
