On Friday, February 7th the Montevallo Bulldogs faced the Childersburg Tigers in one of the biggest games this season. The fight was for the Area Tournament win. In the end, the Dawgs pulled through with a win over the Tigers to secure their title as Class 4A Area 8 champions! The final score of the game was 65-47. This is the dog’s sixteenth straight win.

 The game started off slow but after the first quarter, the Dawgs began to pick up speed. Senior Jamarius Carter 8 points and then helped the team with 15 rebounds. 

Sophomore Kial Cottingham said, “We started off dead and they had a lot of energy but we came out in the second quarter, picked up the energy and got on a streak.” 

Sophomore Michael “MJ” Jones had 21 points throughout the game and was named MVP for the tournament. MJ, Kial Cottingham, Jamarius Carter, and Jabrian Sullens were also named to the all-tournament team. 

 Student Makenzie Payton said, “The game was so interesting for us to watch. Towards the end of the game, the student section got really involved. It was nice to watch our Dawgs bring home a win.” 

The Montevallo Bulldogs followed their area championship with a win over the Handley Tigers on Tuesday, February 11th and are now headed for the Sweet 16.
