The Montevallo High School’s tennis team started off their 2020 season with a win against the Shelby County Wildcats on January 30th.

The girls’ team won all six of their singles matches and the boys’ team won one of their three singles matches. The boys’ team played one doubles match and won while the girls won two of their three matches.

This year, the team consists of ten girls and a new boys team of six members. This season will be the second year coaching for the head coach, Mrs. House. Other volunteer coaches include USTA pro, Pat Stevens, along with parent volunteers, Paul Fancher and Rick Williams and Anne Dirr from MES. This tennis season will be full of surprises as five of the six members on the boys’ team are brand new to the sport.

When returning senior Bella Fancher was asked how she feels about this season, she responded, “We have a lot of new and returning players, so I expect this year to be a lot of fun.”

The MHS tennis team will hopefully pick up their next win against the Thompson Warriors on Wednesday, February 5th.
