MHS wrestling team takes on Regional Tournament

On Thursday, January the 9th, The Montevallo Bulldogs wrestling team traveled to Prattville High School for the first part of the Regional Duals Tournament. Montevallo faced several different high school wrestling teams including Elmore County, John Carroll, Shelby County, Prattville Christian and Holtville. 

Montevallo Middle Schools, William Taylor, is the wrestling teams’ head coach. Mr. Taylor currently is a seventh-grade civics/geography teacher. He also helps coach the middle school football team and helps out with the Montevallo High School Troubadours. Taylor has been the head wrestling coach for several years and each wrestling team member admires Coach Taylor.

Senior Grant Cordes said “Coach Taylor always pushes me and my teammates to always do our best, and always puts us first. We all love and respect that from him.” 

This wrestling season for Montevallo High School has been one of the best. In the Regional Tournament, Senior Rankin Allen went undefeated during his matches. Allen is also ranked 3rd in state in his weight class. 

Allen said“I’m very blessed to be a part of this team. We all work very hard every day.”

Senior Jamari Harris and sophomore Cole Dennis were also undefeated in this tournament. 

The MHS wrestling team placed 2nd in the Regional tournament. Come out and support the wrestling team when they travel to Ranburne High school to compete in the second part of the Regional Duals. Go Dawgs!
