Basketball team prepares for season

Tamyajah Sullens and Niesha Piper

Basketball season for the Montevallo Bulldogs is quickly approaching. The start of the season will begin tonight, with a home game at Montevallo against the West Blocton Tigers. The team is hoping for a very successful season this year with both the varsity and junior varsity boys teams. The head coach for the boys is Gregory Dickinson aka Coach D, with the help of Coach Heath Williams.

This year there will be many returning players. Seniors; Jamarius Carter, Ja’Brian Sullens, Grant Cordes, Chase Ramsey, and Don’Angelo Evans. Juniors; Kavonte Britton, Orlandis Weeks, and Xavier Cartwell. Sophomores: Kial Cottingham, and Michael Jones. We also have new players, Seniors, Orlando Burks and JJ Evans, and Sophomore, Keenan Underwood.

The Bulldogs are expected to make it to state this year. Last year the team had some very unexpected things happen. One week before the season started, Ja’Brian injured his knee, ultimately tearing his ACL. This year, the team has all of it players, who are healthy, and ready to take on this season’s competitors.

When asked how he felt about this basketball season, Kial Cottingham responded,” I’m excited. I’m ready to have fun, and get the crowd involved.” He also commented, “ I think the first game will start off a little slow, but as the game goes on the team’s chemistry will pick up.”

Good luck this season guys, GO DAWGS!
