Community turns up for Big Blue Madness

Monday November 11th, The Montevallo girls and boys basketball put on Big Blue Madness. This event was brought back this year, and had a great turnout. The Blue Madness consists of variety of skills games, a three point contest, a pie eating contest, an alumni scrimmage and everyone’s favorite, a dunking contest.

Basketball coaches Tena Niven and Greg Dickson are the organizers of Big Blue Madness.

Tena Niven enjoys all the participation from the community. She says it’s “ fun to see how many people came out to kickstart our basketball season. We had a lot of participation from the youth league all the way to the high school teams.  I loved seeing the alumni coming back to support and play against our current teams. They helped set and maintain the high standards for the proud tradition of basketball we have here at MHS.”

The Alumni scrimmage was a big hit. Alumni from past years got together Monday night for a scrimmage against the current MHS basketball teams.

Emri Hannah graduated two three years ago and played basketball all throughout high school. Emri said“ It was so much fun to play at Montevallo High school again. I was very excited to see everyone and I hope that the current  team has a great experience as I did when I played in high school.”

Montevallo High school ended the night with a good old fashioned dunking contest. Boys and girls from the current high school team and alumni participated. The contest ended in a tie between senior Jamarius Carter and senior Jabrian Sullens.

Big Blue Madness was a huge success and everyone who participated had a lot of fun. Montevallo High school and the community are looking forward to a great season.
