The Bulldogs faced their first region opponent, American Christian Academy, and came out victorious with a 14-7 victory on the gridiron, Friday, Sept. 2.

“I was really proud of the resiliency and toughness our kids played all four quarters,” head coach Brandon Wilcox said. “There were opportunities in the game for our guys to give in, point fingers, or do any of the other things that losers do, but our guys stuck together and played for each other. This game was a big win for our team and put us in a great position to be where we want to be later down the road.”

The Bulldogs put their mark on the scoreboard first with a pass from senior Zac Oden to senior Treshawn Brown.  Senior Diego Martinez kicked the extra point leaving the score 7-0.

Montevallo’s defense took control and kept the Patriots from scoring until the second quarter.  The touchdown ended up being the only one for the Patriots that night.

Montevallo got their second and final touchdown of the night in the third quarter with a screen pass to senior Caleb Chappell.

Late in the fourth quarter, junior Snoop Holman put the nail in the coffin for ACA intercepting a touchdown pass and returning it for 85 yards.

“Defensively, we just did what we had to do,” Holman said.  “I saw the ball and I just had to come in clutch.  I was hoping to make it the whole way, but I got tired towards the end.”

Oden was 21 out of 35 passes for 222 yards.  Chappell led the Dogs in rushing yards with 99 on 13 carries.  Oden followed behind with 60 yards on 8 carries . Bryant led the Dogs with 7 catches for 90 yards, Chappell had 7 catches for 78 yards, and Brown had 4 catches for 27 yards.
