MHS v. Holt
The Bulldogs faced off with Holt Friday, Sept 12, and, in an intense game that came down to the last second, Montevallo pulled out a victory, 51-48.
The Bulldogs ran the ball successfully all night, having 357 total rushing yards.
Sophomore quarterback Zac Oden completed 10 passes for 75 yards. The leading wide receiver was senior Key Bailey, who received 3 passes for 40 yards.
“We worked hard all week through practice and coaches telling us if we’re going to win this game, we have to win it through the week and that is what we did,” senior wide receiver Cortez Williams said.
MHS v. Sipsey Valley
Montevallo traveled to Sipsey Valley Friday, Sept. 19 to take on the Bears. Despite being heavily favored, the Bulldogs were defeated, 20 – 7.
Montevallo had 50 pass yards and 65 rushing yards.
Sophomore defensive back Jackson Hughes led Montevallo‘s defensive game with 10 tackles.
“We didn’t take care of our responsibilities,” senior running back Michael Arnold said. “We didn’t execute throughout the game.”
MHS v. Asheville
The homecoming game against the Asheville Bulldogs took place on Friday, Sept. 28. In a battle of the Bulldogs, it was Montevallo that soundly defeated Asheville, 42-14.
Montevallo had 150 passing yards and 175 rushing yards. Junior running back Undraez Lilly lead the defense with 7 tackles, while Arnold lead the offensive game with 2 touchdowns, one rushing and one passing.
“Michael Arnold really showed up during this game,” senior left tackle Timmy Hayes said, “and I was glad I was able to block for him. The rest of the team showed great effort in execution as well.”
