The Bulldogs traveled to Tarrant Friday, Sept. 20 to take on the Wildcats, and Tarrant emerged victorious 20-14, giving MHS another loss.
Montevallo’s lead receiver was sophomore Blake Smith who received for 61 yards along with a touchdown catch. Junior Dajion Young was Montevallo’s leading rusher with 10 carries for 65 yards and sophomore Chase Inabinett scored Montevallo’s only rushing touchdown in a 4-yard run.
“We played hard the whole game,” senior wide receiver Meko Brown said. “Some things we need to fix, like little mental mistakes that cost us the game. This game gives us another reason to practice harder during the week.”
Freshman quarterback Zac Oden put up 25 throws, 12 of which were completed for 120 yards.
A highlight of this game was the 61-yard touchdown that Oden threw to Smith.
West Blocton was the next opponent for the Bulldogs Friday, Sept. 27. Montevallo was unable to secure their first win of the season, as West Blocton beat the Bulldogs 42 – 20.
Montevallo’s leading defensive players were junior Michael McKenzie with 2 interceptions and 4 tackles, and senior Aaron Terrill with 11 tackles and a field goal block.
“We started slow,” Terrill said. “In the second half, we came back and fought but they matched each of our touchdowns. We showed we have a lot of stamina in the second half which will be a weapon for us in upcoming games.”
Despite Oden going down, and most of Montevallo’s touchdowns being brought back, Montevallo was still able to make some offensive plays. Young had a 25-yard reception for a touchdown.
Junior Cortez Williams stepped into the quarterback position and had one rushing touchdown and threw the 25-yard completion to Young.
Sophomore Undraez Lilly was Montevallo’s lead rusher with 7 rushes for 90 yards as well as a touchdown run.
