Andrew Zow’s Bulldogs picked up their second win of the season, defeating the Thorsby Rebels 28-20 at the MHS homecoming game, Friday, Oct. 19.
“It was a great win and we needed it,” Zow said. “The team really fought back in the second half. The defense played well and gave us a chance to win.”
The team relied on big plays by key players to edge out Thorsby in a hard fought game. Montevallo battled back from a 20-14 deficit, ending the second quarter.
The Bulldogs tied on the first drive of the second half, when senior Trevor Chatham hit senior Landon Goodwin with a 53-yard touchdown pass.
“I think we played well,” Chatham said. “Our defense and turnovers were the deciding factor of the outcome of the game.
“The MHS defense forced four consecutive turnovers, three of which were recovered by junior Aaron Terrill.
“We played well and fought hard,” Terrill said. ”Our defense played fast and physical, and that lead to many turnovers which allowed our defense to put points on the board.”
Senior Ronezz Stevens led the Bulldogs for 97 yards on 12 carries to score 2 touchdowns. Goodwin led in receiving yards, going 82 yards on 5 carries. He was followed by Korey Cunningham, with 45 yards on 3 carries.
“I feel that as a team we stayed focused the whole game, played hard for 4 quarters, and came out at half time strong,” Cunningham said. “I also helped contribute to the victory by leading along with the other seniors.”
