The Bulldogs lost their first home game to the B.B. Comer Tigers on Friday, Sept. 7 with a score of 24-32.
In the first quarter, the Tigers scored the first touchdown of the night, leaving the Dogs behind to catch up. Montevallo came back in the second quarter and tied the game with a pass from seniors Trevor Chatham to Demetrouse Conwell.
Senior Korey Cunningham received a pass from Chatham, which set up a five-yard run by sophomore Cortez Williams, who scored the Bulldogs’ next touchdown. The Tigers kick off and Chase Inabinett recovers from Williams managed to score another touchdown making the score 18-6.
A two point conversion from the Tigers brought them up, after they scored their first touchdown of the half, bringing them to 18-14.
The Montevallo drive ended when an intercepted pass from Chatham brought the Bulldogs back to the six-yard-line, and ultimately put the Tigers in the lead with a score of 18-21.
“We played well,” Cunningham said. “We just didn’t get to finish like we wanted.”
The Bulldogs attempted to fight back with Williams scoring another touchdown, making it his third one of the night.
The Tigers’ lead, however, grew after a touchdown and secured their victory.
“We should’ve won that game, their size really played a factor in the game,” Coach Andrew Zow said. “Late mistakes hurt us.”
