Two counselors work here at Montevallo High School. You probably know Mrs. Walker, but Mr. Howard is also a counselor. You can find his room next to the staircase beside Mrs. Fricke’s room. We wanted to get to know him better and know exactly what it is that he does.
His full name is Shane Howard, he went to Southside High School and graduated from UAB. He chose a career in education because of his great high school experience. He knew that he wanted to work in a school to help students feel the way he had felt as a high school student. He chose to be a counselor because he loves helping students be successful in all aspects of their lives. He was a counselor at Shelby County High School for 28 years, but was moved to MHS to work Wednesday and Thursday due to our student population growth. You will also see him at the CTEC campus in Columbiana at the Success Program. He says that he enjoys being at MHS because of the great faculty and students.
During the summer he spends a lot of his time coaching travel baseball, doing projects around the house, and going on beach trips with his wife. Some of his hobbies include playing golf, riding a motorcycle, attending events, and traveling with his wife. He has three kids; his son is a senior at Auburn, his other son is in the Marines and is currently stationed in Japan, and his daughter is in graduate school in South Carolina.
We want to thank Mr. Howard for coming to MHS and helping improve the lives of all the students.
