At Montevallo High School we have a group of underappreciated members of faculty. They work hard all year round. During the summer they do things such as finish the floor, cut grass, change filters, and get the school ready for the students to return. So we would like to introduce you to our janitors, Leland, Kennedy, Gina, and Colby.
First, we would like to introduce you to Leland, he began working as a janitor after his father sold the family business where he worked. He began working in Vestavia, then went to Oak Mountain, and finally here. He does work in all buildings and is also our maintenance guy. He attended a private school that no longer exists, called Burning Point. He is from the Fairfield area. An interesting fact about him is that he used to ump college baseball and even worked at four College World Series games, last year was the first time he didn’t ump in 45 years.
Next, we would like to introduce you to Kennedy, She previously worked at Thompson, where she met Leland, who convinced her to come to Montevallo. She went to school at Thompson and then went to Shelby County High School. She is from Alabaster. She is in charge of cleaning the floors, and six different classrooms. In her free time, she enjoys reading. She has been with us since December of last year but will be moving to Utah in June.
Now we would like to introduce you to Gina, She began working here because she had a friend who worked here that helped her get a job at Montevallo. She cleans all upstairs classrooms, about five classrooms downstairs, offices, the band room, the choir room, and the library. She is from Shelby County which is also where she went to school. Some things that she likes to do in her free time are quilt, crochet, knit, cross stitch, and spend time with her grandsons. She is planning to retire in June.
The last person that we would like to introduce you to is Colby, He graduated from Montevallo High School. He also went to and worked at Thompson but later came to Montevallo. He cleans the lunch room, the lobby, a couple of classrooms, and the Alice Boyd building.
We just wanted to take a quick moment to express our gratitude towards the people who work tirelessly to keep our school clean and looking great for all of us and our visitors. We would like to also wish Mrs. Gina and Kennedy well as they move on in June.
