The annual Montevallo’s Day of Pageants took place in the Montevallo High School’s Performing Art Center on Saturday Feb. 8, 2014.
Girls from kindergarten through seniors and high school boys could participate. The categories for the pageant were Mini Miss Montevallo, grades kindergarten and first; Little Miss Montevallo, grades second and third; Young Miss Montevallo, grades fourth and fifth; Junior Miss Montevallo, grades sixth through eighth; Mr. Montevallo, boys grades ninth through twelfth; and Miss Montevallo, grades ninth through twelfth. Dollar Bill Lawson was the speaker for the pageant.
History and mass communications teacher Jennifer Turner, along with her broadcast class, coordinated the pageant.
“I had a great group of students this year directing the pageant,” Turner said. “They did a wonderful job getting everything set up and making sure things went smoothly.”
Chosen for Mr. Montevallo was senior Mitch Sanders, and the first alternate was senior Chase Hamrick.
“I was overwhelmed at the results from the pageant,” Sanders said. “My head got dizzy, the lights went blurry and my lips went numb.”
Selected as Miss Montevallo was senior Emily Colley. Fourth alternate was sophomore Claire Gray, third alternate was senior Natalie Holsomback, second alternate was sophomore Destyni Peoples, first alternate was senior Alexandria Buttgereit and the Miss Congeniality award was given to Colley as well.
“When they called my name, I felt honored and overjoyed because it has always been my dream to become Miss Montevallo,” Colley said. “The pageant was so much fun, but only because it was spent with some of my closest friends. It was most definitely an enchanting night to remember and an excellent way to end my senior pageant. I know that God has given me this platform, and I want Him to receive all the glory.”
