Six members of the Montevallo High School Marching Troubadours traveled to UAB December 6-9 to audition for the UAB Honor Band. Auditions began Thursday. From there, musicians were placed in selected bands, and taught All-State music.
The bands performed Sunday, Dec. 9, along with several college and professional bands. Musicians included senior Trenton Johnson, junior Kenny Oswald, sophomores Kenneth McCutcheon and Dylan Sanders and freshmen Claire Gray and Bryant Nolen.
Trumpet player Sanders participated in the Honor Band for the first time, achieving third chair, highest band.
“For my first time to attend, I’m excited that I performed so well,” Sanders said. “This was an honor to receive third chair among such strong competition from throughout the state.”
This was saxophonist Johnson’s second time to participate in the Honor Band.
“I have earned over 10 medals from other honor bands,” Johnson said. “They’re a great social experience, and an easy way to tour a college.”
