Members of the Montevallo High school choir traveled to UAB to perform in the honor choir concert on Saturday, Jan. 16. Choral director Virginia Cook selected several students to be a part of the UAB honor choir.
“It is an honor for these students to attend,” Cook said. “They exhibit musical excellence in all they do, and I am very proud of their participation in this program.”
The following students participated: senior Tedarion Cunningham; juniors Stellesia Conwell and Donna Harris; and freshmen J.D. Hanna, Rachel Odom and Keondre Bailey. The students were a part of the choir that included many students from around the state of Alabama and also included students from the UAB concert choir.
Choir students put several hours of hard work into practicing and perfecting the concert. During the concert they were accompanied by a full steel drum percussion ensemble. Their practices were Thursday, Jan. 12 through Saturday Jan. 14. They rehearsed six selections before performing Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Alys Stephens Center in Birmingham.
“It was an amazing experience; one they will never forget,” Cook said.
This is the first year that Montevallo High school has had an honor choir.
“I look forward to being a part of the honor choir next year,” Conwell said. “I had a great time and heard some great singers.”
