MHS v. Locust Fork
Montevallo took on Locust Fork at home Friday, Aug. 22.
Although the Bulldogs fought hard, Locust Fork proved to be too much for them to handle, and the Bulldogs lost 47 – 0.
“We fought hard, and we know what we need to work on,” senior wide receiver Key Bailey said. “We just need to take care of the little mistakes.”
The Bulldogs were obviously disappointed after all the hard work they put into pre-season practice to lose their first game.
“First, we are not pleased with the outcome of the game,” head coach Andrew Zow said. “We had a lot of missed assignments early, and it continued throughout the night. We must learn how to move to the next play and not get down on ourselves. Although there were a few positive plays in the game—moments that were positive—we would follow up with a negative play or penalty.”
MHS v. Francis Marion
Looking to redeem themselves after their loss against Locust Fork, the Bulldogs traveled to Francis Marion Friday, Aug. 29.
Montevallo shut out Francis Marion, with a 9 – 0 win.
Sophomore quarterback Zac Oden completed 7 of 12 passes for 47 yards. Sophomore running back Caleb Cottingham led the rushing game with 9 attempts for 85 yards. Bailey led the receiving game with 2 receptions for 18 yards.
“We had a great win,” sophomore kicker Diego Martinez said. “This game, we focused on the little things and carried through to win. I’m proud that people came to support us and knew we would play well.”
MHS v. Oak Grove
After their win over Francis Marion, Montevallo took to the road again—this time to Oak Grove, to take on the Tigers. Montevallo carried their momentum from their previous win and soundly defeated the Tigers, 51-26.
Oden completed 15 of 22 passes for 302 yards and 5 touchdowns. Senior receiver Michael Mckenzie led receptions with 3 for 82 yards and a touchdown. Freshman receiver Ahmad Edwards also had 3 receptions for 75 yards and 2 touchdowns.
“My Bulldog brothers and I persevered through the pain in practice and it paid off Friday night,” freshman receiver Daqwan Bryant said.
Senior running back Michael Arnold, once again dominated the running game with 6 attempts for 74 yards and a touchdown.
“It was a good win,” Arnold said. “It was nice to see all our hard work payoff and we hope to win plenty more games this season.”
